Welcome to Marc Wood Furniture, we are a small family business in rural Somerset with over 10 years’ experience of crafting our furniture, mirrors and picture frames using sustainable, natural wood.
Our resident designer-maker Marc is inspired by how far modernist shapes can be created using traditional techniques and natural materials.
Our exclusive in-house designs are all handmade to order and we are also often commissioned to make special pieces of bespoke furniture.

Based in South Somerset, our characterful farmhouse workshop is located in the heart of this magical landscape of peaceful rolling farmland, heritage cider orchards and natural, wild beauty.
We are fortunate to work amongst other talented artisans at a compact 19th century farmhouse complex which also hosts an annual Open Day, several Somerset Arts Week venues and a variety of making workshops from pottery and jewellery to our own woodworking experience days.
Located just off the busy A303, if you are vising Somerset, Devon or Cornwall you can pop by our shop space in the Ilminster Emporium on Silver Street.
This grade listed ‘R. A. Dyer’ drapers shop is in the heart of the pretty, historical market town of Ilminster which also features cafes, art galleries and independent shops.
This creative community nurtures many artists and makers and is home to the UK headquarters of fashion designer Alice Temperley at Phoenix Studios in the town square.

Sustainable Furniture Making
We believe that our natural environment is essential for our wellbeing and it provides much of our inspiration; as a UK furniture maker we have made a commitment to keep sustainability in focus, minimising waste and re-using discarded materials. reducing our use of plastics and energy consumption.
We do our best to source supplied locally and use recycled packaging whenever possible; we are also working on using more renewable energy in our making process.
Modern Furniture Design Using Traditional Methods
The angular ‘Dovetail’ joint is a favourite of Marc’s and has become our design signature. This classic joinery method has dual benefits for dependable construction and an accentuated yet simple decorative feature.
Contemporary characteristics incorporated into Marc’s furniture designs include gently rounded cabinet edges with slim ‘Finger’ joints, which combine with our integrated wooden handles for a fluid appearance.
Join our Woodworking Experience Day Course
Spend a day learning to craft your own artisan wooden picture frame or ‘dovetail’ mirror with Marc Wood in our rural workshop, as he answers your joinery questions along the way.
Our full day woodworking course for adults (over 18 years) will teach you how to craft your own wooden picture frame or mirror in the traditional way, using hand tools.
Over the course of 6 hours Marc will tutor you in different joinery and carpentry techniques to safely construct your own piece, based on our best loved designs, for you to take home.
